Yorchestra

Yorchestra has 4 different orchestras as follows:  Maestro for players Grade 6+, plays orchestral music from original scores,  Mezzo for players from Grade 3 to Grade 5, plays a mixture of orchestral arrangements and light music eg music from the shows,  Primo for players from Grade 1 to Grade 2 plays similar music to Mezzo, finally Yo Strings/Winds for players with a term's playing experience to Grade 1, sometimes this group is split into Strings and Winds dependant on numbers.  Applications open in the term preceeding each course and come from all over Yorkshire and occasionally from further afield.  There are no auditions, we ask parents to choose the correct orchestra based on the grade guidelines and occasionally ask advice from the child's instrument teacher.  Yorchestra is a non residential orchestra and runs over between 2 mornings and 4 days dependant on the orchestra.  Players are well supported by tutors who play alongside in the full orchestra rehearsals and run sectional rehearsals if needed. Maestro Grade 6+, Mezzo Grade 3 to 5, Primo Grade 1 to 2, and Yo Strings/Winds Beginner to Grade 1. We are able to offer generous financial support for those who need it.  The Christmas and Summer courses culminate in an Evening Concert for Maestro and Mezzo players in the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at the University of York to which family and friends can be invited.  The other orchestras have informal concerts at the end of their last day.
Age range: 6 - 21 years old, 4 different orchestras catering for different playing abilities from Beginner to Grade 8+

When and where: Yorchestra takes place in the long school holidays.  At Christmas and in the Summer it takes place at the Music Department, University of York and all orchestras run.  At Easter, Yorchestra moves to Archbishop Holgate's School, Hull Road, York and Maestro, the orchestra for Grade 6+ does not run.
